  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (for topping)
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (cold and cut into 1/2-inch cubes)
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • sanding sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine chopped pears with granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, and vanilla extract. Transfer to a greased baking dish.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and spices. Cut in cold butter until crumbly.
  4. Spread the topping evenly over the pear mixture and drizzle with milk. Sprinkle sanding sugar on top.
  5. Bake for about 35 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
