Ingredients

  • ½ cup water
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¾ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon cold unsalted butter
  • 6 medium apples (washed, sliced)
  • Optional: 6 oz. dark chocolate chips
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon oil
  • Optional: ½ cup chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Prepare all ingredients and tools for a smooth cooking process.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar and water. Stir until dissolved and boil without stirring until amber in color (about 10 minutes). Carefully add salt and heavy cream while stirring; mix in butter until smooth.
  3. Slice apples into wedges or rounds and arrange on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Dip each apple slice in warm caramel sauce using tongs or forks, then place back on the baking sheet.
  5. Optionally sprinkle with chopped nuts before caramel sets or drizzle melted chocolate over slices.
  6. Allow caramel apple slices to cool completely before serving.
