  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 4 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 2 cups canned pumpkin (not pie filling)
  • ⅔ cup brown sugar
  • ⅔ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup applesauce or canola oil
  • 3 eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup mini chocolate chips (reserve some for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9×5 loaf pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and pumpkin pie spice until well mixed.
  3. In another bowl, combine the canned pumpkin, brown sugar, granulated sugar, applesauce (or oil), eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and all ingredients are incorporated.
  4. Gently combine both mixtures by pouring the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and folding in both types of chocolate chips carefully until just combined.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the greased loaf pans and sprinkle reserved mini chocolate chips on top.
  6. Place in preheated oven and bake for about 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
