- 2 tbsp red food coloring
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
- ½ cup mini chocolate chips (optional)
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2–4 tbsp milk
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix warm milk, melted butter, egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract. Stir into dry ingredients.
- Gradually add remaining flour to form a soft dough and knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth.
- Let the dough rise in an oiled bowl for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Prepare filling by mixing softened butter with brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll out risen dough into a rectangle and spread the filling evenly. Roll tightly and slice into pieces.
- Let rolls rise again for 30 minutes before baking at 350°F (175°C) for 25–30 minutes.
- Make frosting by beating cream cheese and butter together; gradually add powdered sugar and milk to achieve desired consistency.
- Frost warm rolls and serve.
