  • 1 large egg yolk (room temperature)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (plus more for topping)
  • Sea salt flakes for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350ºF and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
  3. In a stand mixer, beat eggs, egg yolk, sugar, oil, and vanilla on medium-high speed until frothy.
  4. Melt chocolate chips and butter in a saucepan over medium heat; stir until smooth. Remove from heat and whisk in cocoa powder.
  5. Combine melted chocolate with wet ingredients until just mixed.
  6. Gradually add dry ingredients; mix until incorporated but do not overmix.
  7. Scoop dough onto prepared sheets; sprinkle with sea salt flakes.
  8. Bake for 8–10 minutes until tops are shiny and crackly.
  9. Cool on sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a rack.
