  • 15 ounces pinto beans (drained and rinsed)
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ¼ cup masa harina

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a large pot over medium heat until no pink remains; drain excess fat.
  2. Sauté minced garlic in the pot for one minute until fragrant.
  3. Add tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, and seasonings (chili powder, cumin, oregano, salt, cayenne). Stir to combine.
  4. Cover and simmer on low heat for about 60 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. If too thick, add up to ½ cup water for desired consistency.
  6. Whisk masa harina with water until smooth; stir into chili and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  7. Fold in kidney and pinto beans; warm through for about 10 minutes.
